  • Description:
    • SnapzPro is a screen recording software which we use as a backup for Adobe Connect recordings. The software records either the whole screen or a portion of it and then converts the recording to a .mov file. This file can then be uploaded to firma and posted as a downloadable file for students just as we do with Wirecast videos.
  • Where to Find it:
    • SnapzPro is currently installed on Control Room Macs Washington & Cortland (far left), Hyperion, and Helios.
    • Things to Keep in Mind:
      • The computer being recorded on cannot be used for other tasks while recording. Doing so will ruin the recording.
      • The time to convert the recording to a .mov file is equal to the time it took to complete the recording, so the full process will take a while!
        • A two hour recording will take two hours to convert.
      • Use a computer that will not need to be used during recording. Helios and Hyperion are the best choices.
  • When to Use:
    • SnapzPro is used to record the screen of an Adobe Connect recording. This is only done when:
      • We are not able to record a backup in Wirecast or Panopto
        • In this case, pull up the live Adobe Connect window and record simultaneously with the Adobe recording during class
      • The downloadable file recording was damaged, lost, or failed (Wirecast/Panopto).
        • Find the archived recording on the Adobe Connect server and record the playback
  • Proper Use:
    • Setting the Area to Record:
      • Press SHIFT-COMMAND-3to open the SnapzPro software when no other program is active
        • On Macs, a program is active when its name appears in upper left part of the screen
        • You want the active program to be Finder (click anywhere on the computer desktop if it is not).

      • Click on the 'movie' tab in the far right of the window that opens
      • A box will appear on the screen. Set the box dimensions to 1066 x 600 in the options box and move over the area you wish to record by clicking and holding the left mouse button while moving the mouse (don't worry if the window you want to record doesn't match the record box before this stage - you can resize the window later).
        • While in this mode, your screen is frozen. The clock will not move on the screen, so if you are waiting for a particular time to start the recording, use another clock!
      • Start the recording by double clicking within the recording box. The box will disappear and be replaced by a thin red line outlining the recording area.
        • Resize the window you wish to record now if the sizes do not match.
    • Stopping and Saving Recordings:
      • To end a recording, make sure Finder is active (see above for instructions on assuring this) and press SHIFT-COMMAND-3
      • Click 'Save Now' on the message that pops up, and wait for the dubbing process to complete.
        • You can now use the computer, but do NOT close the dubbing window.
      • The file will be saved on the desktop as a generic name that usually includes Firefox.
      • Save the file under the correct name to EncoderFiles and export to firma as usual
